Reactions to TFIOS Test Screening

On Wednesday, the day the TFIOS trailer was released, there was also a test screening of the movie for a selected audience. Test screenings are organized by film studios in order to gauge the reaction of an audience and to get some feedback according to which they may adjust some things about the movie.

Movie Editor, Robb Sullivan tweeted:

Some reactions from audience members that got to see the movie:

This just got us onto a whole other excitement level. June 6th can't come soon enough!

12 Things You Might Have Missed In The TFIOS Trailer

These are a few meaningful things we didn't notice at first (maybe because we were crying too hard), and after many TFIOS trailer viewings we finally saw.

Alert: Spoilers ahead.

1. The Hectic Glow Poster

Hello there, Augustus Waters' favorite band in Hazel Grace's room.

2. Purple Bra

In the book Hazel mentions she is wearing a purple part during that sexy scene.
"Idiotically, it occurred to me that my pink underwear didn’t match my purple bra, as if boys even notice such things. “

4. Gus' limp

Can you not, Ansel Elgort.

5. Ceci n'est pas une pipe shirt

6. Augustus' tears

A lot of people didn't see him cry at first. Now, share our pain. You're welcome.

7. Augustus' declaration of love

In the book it took place on the plane to Amsterdam. In the movie it will be during their fancy Amsterdam dinner. How romantic. *sigh*

8. Music
The music in the trailer gives us a glimpse on the types of genres and sounds we might hear in the TFIOS soundtrack. Josh Boone is known for his love of music and music supervisor Season Kent has a lot of great experience under her belt.
Trailer Songs
What You Wanted - One Republic
We're on our Way - Radical Face
Sun - Sleeping at Last

Imogen Poots talked to Collider about Josh Boone, saying, "And Fault in Our Stars sounds really fun and he’s gonna give it a killer soundtrack, as always."

9. Hazel receiving the Call

"(...) when I grabbed the phone from the bedside table and saw Gus’s Mom on the caller ID, everything inside of me collapsed. She was just crying on the other end of the line, and she told me she was sorry, and I said I was sorry, too, and she told me that he was unconscious for a couple hours before he died.
My parents came in then, looking expectant, and I just nodded and they fell into each other, feeling, I’m sure, the harmonic terror that would in time come for them directly.“

10. Red

We were discussing if there was a deeper meaning to Augustus' red shirt and we came up with a theory: Since Augustus wears the red shirt, the same color as the swing-set, it could be foreshadowing (if you know what we mean. Sorry.)

11. First Shot

The very first shot is a shot of the stars. The stars.

12. Last Shot

Another one of our theories: In sign language the position of her hands means "love". Now let's cry.

Did you notice anything we missed? Let us know.

TFIOS Reaction Post

Since we're pretty much blown away by the trailer we decided to make a reaction post, trying to convey how we feel (through gifs, because words do not suffice).

So we're simply going to list the things we love about the trailer

no it's not

1. The first thing we really ADORE is how nearly every line is taken directly from the book.

We all know that wasn't really a necessity and is a really hard thing to accomplish but it seems like they really nailed that. All hail Scott Neustadter and Michael H Weber, the screenwriters.

2. How it leaves you in the dark.

haha no.

Like in the book you don't anticipate how it ends. Poor non-readers.

3. THE FEELS. THE FEEEELS.

get out

lemme hug you

4. It doesn't center around cancer. It's NOT a cancer story.

OH GOD SO CUTE

The cancer is a side-effect. The STORY is not about cancer but about two young people being in love and that's what the trailer is about.

5. How real it looks.

100% agreed

We don't just mean real in the sense of "Wow, those are real people," (Shailene and Ansel truly bring these characters to life), but their skin looks natural, the colors look amazing (round of applause for Ben), the emotions feel real, etc etc.

Also there is a lot of blue and it stands out. LOVE THAT.

6. The humor.

stop stop stop stop don't stop

The angst is there. And it doesn't leave. But just like in the book it is interrupted by humor. We can't deny that one of the reasons we love this book is the witty, sarcastic, humorous banter that goes on between Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters.

7. The details.

nothing is okay. nothing.

Hello things you only get if you've read the book. Hello Rik Smits jersey and orange blanket and orange dutch tulips. Hello swing-set. Hello Hectic Glow Poster. Hello "OKAY." Hello bench of doom in Amsterdam.

8. When Gus flops down on that bed? COME ON NOW.

OH GOOODDDDD

Ansel makes that flop look very pretty *cough*.

9. The friendship.

clothes. feels. hurts.

I mean obviously Hazel and Gus are adorable but can we talk about Hazel and Gus and Isaac (please just look at the cute of Nat Wolff)?

10. Gus, our baby.

this is not ok

oh god no. last good day. out.

icu

We think Ansel really nailed it. He has the sass and the deep thoughts and the vulnerability. Ansel, all the high fives from us. All the high fives.

11. Mama Bear.

Mama Lancaster. Laura Dern. Tears.

12. The music. And when the music stopped.

HOW DARE YOU STOP THERE MUSIC AND MAKE IT WORSE.

13. Full Circle.

We love the voiceover and more importantly, we love how the trailer told Gus and Hazel's full story. If you knew what to look for. A+, Josh, A+.

So basically, we love every. freaking. second of that trailer. FRENCH THE LLAMA it was good.  Thank you to everyone who works so hard on this!

Make sure to share everything you loved in the comments below.

P.S. We didn't make any of those gifs. They were made by some really talented people on tumblr and if it's true you should find the source when you click on them.
