These are a few meaningful things we didn't notice at first (maybe because we were crying too hard), and after many TFIOS trailer viewings we finally saw.
1. The Hectic Glow Poster
Alert: Spoilers ahead.
1. The Hectic Glow Poster
Hello there, Augustus Waters' favorite band in Hazel Grace's room.
2. Purple Bra
In the book Hazel mentions she is wearing a purple part during that sexy scene.
"Idiotically, it occurred to me that my pink underwear didn’t match my purple bra, as if boys even notice such things. “
3. Venn Diagram
Thanks to johanna7mason on tumblr
4. Gus' limp
Can you not, Ansel Elgort.
5. Ceci n'est pas une pipe shirt
6. Augustus' tears
A lot of people didn't see him cry at first. Now, share our pain. You're welcome.
7. Augustus' declaration of love
In the book it took place on the plane to Amsterdam. In the movie it will be during their fancy Amsterdam dinner. How romantic. *sigh*
8. Music
The music in the trailer gives us a glimpse on the types of genres and sounds we might hear in the TFIOS soundtrack. Josh Boone is known for his love of music and music supervisor Season Kent has a lot of great experience under her belt.

Imogen Poots talked to Collider about Josh Boone, saying, "And Fault in Our Stars sounds really fun and he’s gonna give it a killer soundtrack, as always."
9. Hazel receiving the Call
"(...) when I grabbed the phone from the bedside table and saw Gus’s Mom on the caller ID, everything inside of me collapsed. She was just crying on the other end of the line, and she told me she was sorry, and I said I was sorry, too, and she told me that he was unconscious for a couple hours before he died.
My parents came in then, looking expectant, and I just nodded and they fell into each other, feeling, I’m sure, the harmonic terror that would in time come for them directly.“
10. Red
We were discussing if there was a deeper meaning to Augustus' red shirt and we came up with a theory: Since Augustus wears the red shirt, the same color as the swing-set, it could be foreshadowing (if you know what we mean. Sorry.)
11. First Shot
The very first shot is a shot of the stars. The stars.
12. Last Shot
Another one of our theories: In sign language the position of her hands means "love". Now let's cry.
Did you notice anything we missed? Let us know.
Fan Responses
- Hazel clutching a paper, you know what it is, at the last scene. (Thank you ditacannon and Catherine MacLean.)
- Augustus' prosthetic leg during a steamy scene. (Thank you Floreencia)
- Monica's car is the same exact color as described in the book. Bright green. (Thank you Christina Eason)
- Hazel's nails are painted the "almost dark blue." (Thank you kiki)
In the very last shot, she also appears to be clutching a piece of paper... and I think we all know what that is
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what that means...sorry, but could someone please explain?
DeleteIn the last scenes leading up to this very last one, Hazel is given a piece of paper (given to her by Peter Van Houten). In that scene, she crumples the piece of paper and leaves it until Isaac tells her Augustus wrote her [Hazel] a Eulogy, which was sent to Peter Van Houten. From this, Hazel retrieves this paper and reads it.
DeleteIn the last scene, she clutches the paper as it serves a memory of Augustus Waters to Hazel
gus appears without his orthopedic leg when they are about to do the nastyyy
ReplyDeleteBetter put a big spoiler alert sign at the top
ReplyDeleteMonica's car is the same color as described in the book!
ReplyDeletewhen augustus and hazel are walking in what seems to be a park, she is carrying an orange blanket, and he is wearing an Indiana Jersey. They are going to funky bones!
ReplyDeleteAnd there's also gus with the bright orange tulips.

ReplyDeleteThe last scene is the same as the first... she's looking at the stars after reading the paper... the unfathomable constellations
ReplyDeleteshe also wears her so blue it's almost black nail polish

Deletehere it is: http://livroepipoca.wordpress.com/2014/02/01/12-coisas-que-voce-nao-deve-ter-notado-no-trailer-de-a-culpa-e-das-estrelas/ Thank you so much!!
DeleteDixie cup and cookies in the church basement!
ReplyDeleteThey also had dixie cups in the Funky Bones Scene (in which they drink champagne) but they aren't Winnie the Pooh themed.
DeleteHazel wasn't wearing a yellow t-shirt advertising a band she didn't even like anymore. Isaac's hair is not blond. Literal heart of Jesus. Chuck Taylors! Not a little steel cart. On the first part of the trailer Hazel isn't wearing cannula.
ReplyDeleteyeah I think that's right that she's not wearing the cannula because she talks during this little first part and she says that you have a choice about how to tell sad stories and that you can sugar-cote them, etc, but it's not the truth and then there's a cut and she says "this is the truth" and from that moment she wears the cannula so I think that shows how she's telling her sad story?
Deleteand, like, idk, isaac's hair is not blond, idk john green explains it? here http://fishingboatproceeds.tumblr.com/post/61536058631/why-stuff-like-hair-color-is-not-so-important-to-me#notes
idk I think that movie's gonna be great, really
:( I cried again

ReplyDeleteTrue true ya i remember he said it was wierd that he missed a swig he never sat on
Deleteswing*
DeleteI noticed some of these but not all of them, I think i almost broke my computer screen coz i hit it that many times...whoops
ReplyDeleteWhen Isaac and Hazel are siting where the swings were they are both with black clothe!!! Is after augustus death! :'(
ReplyDeleteWhen Hazel and Augustus are talking after support group, he isn't smoking Camel Lights. Light cigarettes have a white filter.
ReplyDeleteat the begining of the trailer hazel isn't wearing her breathing tubes at any scene, they appear when she starts telling the "true story"
ReplyDeleteIsaac has black hair in the book it says he has blonde hair
ReplyDeleteAround 2:06 is his prefuneral.

hazel is not crying at the swing set scene. :)
Deletewhen isaac says are you angry and hazel says so angry shes wearing a black dress and the only time she wears black inthe book is when...
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know what the poster is next to The Hecktive Glow poster? The orange/red "S" one? I love it!
ReplyDeleteImagine Dragons
DeleteHazel is wearing her "death dress" in the last shot. she was in her black funeral dress but changes into the dress she's never worn to look at the stars.
ReplyDeleteIn the movie before they egged the car Gus asked if Hazel had $5.00 in the book he asked if she had $4.00.
ReplyDeleteI just saw the movie, and I thought it was a great adaptation. I wasn't upset with most of the changes (i.e. no Kaitlyn), but I was sad about the swing set part. The movie mentions the swing set, but it doesn't show how the swing set disappears. Unless I'm mistaken, Hazel and Isaac are sitting in front of the part of the yard where the swing set used to be at the end of the movie. I remember the part of the book where they sell the swing set as particularly endearing - in a book filled with endearing scenes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a deleted scene in the DVD/Blu-ray release!!
ReplyDeleteI have seen three versions of this movie. A download shortly after movie came out, the store bought movie and now the one on netflix. The one on netflix cuts out so many things: 1. the swing set part where haze says "that is why I don't own a hamster", 2. the scene from her bedroom as they type up the ad for the swing set, and 3. the part where she is telling her mom about Gus's wish to bring her to Amsterdam.
DeleteI am so happy I have the first release. Its so much better
He was 17 in the book 18 in the movie. Hazel was 16 in the book 17 in the movie.
ReplyDelete"In the Winter of my 17th year" means that she is 16 almost seventeen.
DeleteAugustus doesn't get his cigarettes at the funeral. ( The funeral was supposed to be an open casket)
ReplyDeleteAh yes I get the 10th one, The swing set got sold it was red, Augustus' shirt was red, and they both left Hazel..
ReplyDeleteSOMETHING I NOTICED
ReplyDeletewhen Hazel got the call form Augustus' mom, she is wearing the same shirt Augustus wore the day the two met
in the book... hazel tells us about the book that Houten wrote, asking Houten about the "tulip man", Augustus brings hazel (orange) tulips before they go to the funky bones. Augustus is foreshadowing some events that may occur in the future!
