Shailene Woodley talks about working with John Green and Paper Towns

During Divergent Berlin premiere, Shailene Woodley talked briefly about her next project, The Fault In Our Stars, being another literary adaption. She talked about having John Green on set and working again with Ansel.

"Ansel and I are very close naturally so it was nice to have that sense of comfortability. John Green is so witty and so creative," she said. "He is so amazing and everything he does is incredible."

She also talked about her excitement for John Green's "Paper Town" being adapted to the big screen with Nat Wolff as the lead.

"I think it is the best news ever," she said. "I am like 'I want to be an extra in the background!'"

Shailene talks to Entertainment Weekly at CinemaCon

Shailene talks to Entertainment Weekly's Nicole Sperling about The Fault in Our Stars and her whirlwind 2014, filled with both TFIOS and Divergent press.

Source: Zimbio, Divergent Life

On her intertwining press commitments:
"I was just saying that Fault is about two kids with cancer who jump off buildings and run on trains," she says with a laugh. "Wait, is that not right?"

On TFIOS not being a 'cancer movie':
“People ask me in interviews all the time, ‘How did it feel to play a cancer patient?’ I didn’t play a cancer patient. I played a girl who happened to be leading this life and happened to have ‘a touch of cancer,’” she says, in reference to a line from Green’s novel. “This book — and movie — they don’t victimize death, they empower life. That should be the tagline.”

On the importance of TFIOS in the film industry:
"It’s such an important movie: It’s a big studio movie where their lead female has a cannula [oxygen tube] in, in every scene, and on the f—in’ poster my face has no makeup on it and an oxygen tube,” she says. “That is groundbreaking and it’s completely rewriting the paradigm for how female leads exist. I saw [Fox's chairman and chief executive] Jim Gianopolus, and I said, ‘Thank you so much for having the guts and the balls to make a movie like this, to put out a movie like this.’ People making indie movies don’t even make movies like this. It’s so cool.”

Ansel talks TFIOS during Divergent Promo

Ansel talked with Hero Complex (the LA Times) about his latest projects, acting, and what draws him to roles.

HC: You say that the character was very different from you. Is there a character you’ve played that’s similar to you?

"... With Augustus Waters, I’m a little bit theatrical. Augustus is theatrical. He is also very loving, and I am a Pisces, and I easily fall in love, and that is the part for Augustus that I pulled from ... So yeah, I guess I can sort of relate to everyone I’ve played so far in different ways."

Additionally, TFIOS is mentioned as an upcoming project of Ansel's in the following two profiles:

Ansel talks about TFIOS, Shailene and John Green with TwinCities

In Ansel's recent interview with TwinCities.Com, he also talked about TFIOS, playing along Shailene and John Green:
His other upcoming movie, "The Fault in Our Stars," was trickier. It's the story of Hazel and Augustus, two teenagers with cancer who fall in love. The book is told through the voice of Hazel, who idealizes Augustus.
"We see (Augustus) through Hazel's eyes, and she sees him as a superhero. How do you make that real?" Elgort asks.
It helped that he and Woodley already knew one another well. They met at the "Divergent" auditions, where Elgort says Woodley thought he didn't like her because she's a big hugger and he is not. And, although the shift from brother/sister to boyfriend/girlfriend might seem creepy from the outside, Elgort said their familiarity was a huge help.
"I went to the La Guardia High School for the Performing Arts, where you're in an ensemble of seven actors and you're always working with each other on a lot of different things," Elgort says. "And these characters are so different. When I was Caleb, I was Caleb and when I was Augustus, I was Augustus but the great thing was I was being Augustus with this really good friend I made in Chicago."
Millions of fans of "The Fault in Our Stars" have very specific ideas about Augustus, and Elgort said that put a lot of pressure on him to get it right, something he did with the help of the novel's author, John Green.
"Before shooting, I was hanging out with John Green. He uses all of these ridiculous words and has this formal way of talking and all of these quirky mannerisms," recalls Elgort. "And one day I suddenly thought, 'Oh, my god, Augustus is a younger John.' He has the same language, the same quirkiness."
Some parts of both heroic roles just come naturally, according to Elgort, whose father is fashion photographer Arthur Elgort.
"You do a crazy amount of research as an actor but, some of the time, I just have to be myself to be Augustus," says Elgort. "I'm a good-looking guy, I'm 6-4. I don't have to do anything to be a leading man, which might sound egotistical but, as an actor, that stuff is what I have to work with."

Shailene reveals she lost weight for TFIOS

Shailene Woodley is in the middle of promoting Divergent, along with her TFIOS co-star Ansel. In a Q&A with WebMD.com, she reveals she lost a couple of pounds for TFIOS in order to look like a teenager with cancer:
When you're trying to lose 5 pounds, what's the first thing that goes and why?
"I eat what my body wants me to eat, when it wants me to eat -- I listen to it. I haven't ever really 'lost weight,' but for my role in the movie The Fault in Our Stars, I played a girl with cancer and had to lose some. I didn't diet, but ate smaller portions and it actually felt really healthy."
In the Q&A, Shailene also talks about her clean eating habits, exercise, supporting women's rights and health.  Check out the entire interview at WebMD.

Shailene talks TFIOS with Glamour UK

In the April issue of Glamour UK magazine, Shailene also mentions TFIOS:

Tris’s brother is played by Ansel Elgort, who is also Shailene’s love interest in The Fault In Our Stars, an adaptation of the bestseller about two teens with cancer. “I read the book five times. I wrote emails saying I didn’t care if I was an actor in this movie or a PA, I just wanted to get it made,” she laughs. “When I fight for a role, I fight. I’m very determined.”
